The PhD thesis in  Linguistics and Literature:

“The  Innovations  Of Vietnamese Novels From 1986 – 2000”

ABSTRACT

The novel genre is considered as “the main machine” of literature. From 1986 to 2000, Vietnam’s novels had some discoveries, innovation, reached significant achievements with an important contribution to the development process of the national literature. Research on the innovation of the novel of this period is a necessary action which has scientific and practical meaning. The author of the thesis has concentrated on surveying good novels with the attention of the public, from that, we will have the research basis on the Innovations of Vietnamese novels from 1986 to 2000.

On the basis of surveying novel texts and the referring to many sources of materials, research works, theories in Vietnamese and English, the author of the thesis has concentrated to clarify the history of the research on Vietnamese novels innovation from 1986 to 2000, concentrated and researched innovation in art thought, the conception of novels; the extension of amplitude of the novel (extending the conception of reality and human beings, the ability to discover new real areas, diversified construction of novel character models); the innovation on novel art (art of setting up characters, art of time processing, the construction of work structure, approaching the reality by the legendary method) and the meaning of the novel innovation towards the history of Vietnamese literature.

NEW RESULTS OF THE THESIS

1. With the survey of innovational elements of the novel in a general aspect (a stage) and in specific aspect (every work), the thesis contributed to identify, assert the value of the novel and innovational meaning of the genre in the period of 1986 – 2000 for the development process of modern Vietnamese literature.

2. With regard to genre argument, the thesis defined the novels of the period of 1986 – 2000 with the innovation on artistic thought towards the innovational process of the novel of this period.

3. With regard to content, the novels of the period of 1986 – 2000 had amplitude extension reflecting reality and artistic conception of human beings, contributing to the literature with new reality areas and a world of rich, diversified characters.

4. With regard to art, the novels of the period of 1986 – 2000 had innovation on the genre prosody, the diversification of work structure art, the innovation of time processing art, escaping from the form of “diagrammatize” in setting up characters, using effectively the method of internal monologue, conscious flow, legendization, importantly contribute to the process of national literature modernization and the process of integration into the world literature.

APPLIES / ABILITIES OF APPLYING IN PRACTICE, OR OPEN PROBLEMS NECESSARY TO GO ON RESEARCHING

1.  The research results of the thesis on the innovation in the novel from 1986 to 2000 can be introduced into the curriculum on Modern Vietnamese literature or research works on the novels.

 2. Vietnamese novels from 1986 to 2000 had some discoveries, creation, learning the achievements of artistically foreign novels. The thesis put forth a chapter on the innovation in novel art. This is a new and complex  issue which needs to be studied intensively.
